The Art Guild of Tellico Village met on Thursday, April 8 at the Yacht Club. President Lauren Sisco called the meeting to order at 10:00 after a brief time for socializing among the members and guests.
Guests and new members were asked to stand and were welcomed by the President.
Lauren announced that Camp Tellico will take place again this summer for two weeks. Camp dates are July 5th - 9th. The Art Guild has Wednesday, July 7th Several Guild members have already volunteered to help with the camp. Anyone interested should contact Larissa at the Rec Center (458-7098).
Lil Clinard announced that the Tennessee Artists Association will be having a show May 14 through 16 in Farragut at Village Green.
Kathy Fisher reminded members of the upcoming oil painting class with Alex Dumas and the “Painting Water” workshop with George Rothery. Sign-up sheets are located on the tables at the side of the room.
Lauren read a poem she had written to introduce the topic of our upcoming Spring Art Show. Sharon Elmore then told the group that she needs three more volunteers to help with the show. She said that we have 60 artists signed up and 278 offerings to be exhibited. Kathy Simms requested that those members bringing food for the reception bring finger food only. Sharon also reminded everyone that pieces to be exhibited must be delivered on Thursday afternoon, April 15, between 1:00 and 3:00. Pieces must be removed on Sunday, April 18 between 2:00 and 2:15 p.m.
Lauren thanked the nominating committee of Cheryl Peyton and Leslie Wells. She introduced the officers and board members nominated for next year’s term. They are President Lil Clinard, Vice President Theresa Mauch, Recording Secretary Sheila Goehring, Treasurer Gene Fisher, Corresponding Secretary Kathy Simms, Classes Chairman Ginger Barthel, Workshop Chairman Tutt Hoy, and Publicity/Spring Show Chairman Sharon Elmore. Membership will vote on these officers and install them at the May meeting on May 20.
The guest speaker, Denise Stewart-Sanabria, a Knoxville artist, was introduced by Lauren in the absence of Sheila Goehring. Denise brought many samples of her work to show us and to talk about. These pieces included a large oil painting, life-size charcoal drawings on wood of five people, photography, and other examples of very innovative approaches to her work. Among other things, Denise shared with us her photographs and concerns for the rapidly declining houses at Elkmont in the Smoky Mountain National Park. Denise is represented in a number of galleries, including one in Nashville and one in Ashville. She is also involved with Knoxville’s Dogwood Arts Festival, which is currently underway.

The Art Guild of Tellico Village met on Thursday, March 21 at the Yacht Club. President Lauren Sisco called the meeting to order at 10:00 after a brief time for socializing among the members and guests.
Guests and new members were asked to stand and were welcomed by the President.
Lauren announced that Kathy Fisher will be transfering the duties of managing the Art Guild’s website to Mary Sarar.
It was announced that the April meeting will be held on April 8 because of a conflict with the dates of our Spring Art Show.
Sharon Elmore reminded members to send in the forms regarding pieces of artwork they wish to enter into the April Art Show. Deadline for receiving these forms is March 29. Sharon also asked those members who will be distributing flyers get them out sometime around April 10th.
Kathy Fisher announced that George Rothery will be doing a workshop on “Painting Water,” and that Alexander Dumas will be conducting an oil painting classes on Friday afternnons, beginning April 30 for five weeks. Carol Koch reminded us about the upcoming workshop for Sandy Washburn in June and Anne Abgott in August. Sign up sheets for all these events are located on the tables at the side of the room.
Tutt Hoy announced there will be no Brown Bag session in April due to timing with the April Show, but that on Monday, April 12 we will have Open Studio in the room at Chota and anyone may come and paint or work on whatever they wish. Brown Bag topic for May will be announced at the next meeting.
Gene Fischer, Treasurer, reported that the balance in the treasury is $2,525.04. There will be expenses in connection with the Art Show that will come from this balance.
Lauren stated that the Nominating Committee would be making its report at the April 8th meeting and we will vote and install the new officers at the meeting on May 20. This meeting will also be a potluck luncheon at the Yacht Club.
Sheila Goehring introduced Lyda Plemons, our speaker for the meeting. Lyda is an oil painter from Maryville, who discussed her love of iris (the Tennessee State Flower), both to grow and to paint. She also demonstrated her technique for painting iris.

MINUTES OF AGTV MONTHLY MEETING
The February meeting of the Art Guild of Tellico Village met at the Yacht Club on Thursday, February 18. President Lauren Sisco called the meeting to order at 10:00 A.M.. Lauren kicked off the meeting by exhibiting a pair of ice skates, reminding us that the Winter Olympics are in progress, and asked the group five questions to test our knowledge of the Olympics and of AGTV.
Visitors to our meeting were invited to stand and be welcomed. Also, new members were asked to stand and introduce themselves.
Gene Fischer, Treasurer, reported that the bank balance as of the day of our meeting is $2,559.37.
In the absence of Carol Koch, Workshop Chairman, Lauren announced that there are three workshops coming up and they include those by George Rothery, Sandy Washburn, and Anne Abgott. Additional information and sign-up sheets for each are on the side tables in our meeting room. President Sisco also reminded the group that information about water color and drawing classes is available on the side tables, as well.
Tutt Hoy invited members to attend the next Brown Bag Creativity Session on March 8. Keith Harding and Rosey Brehm will conduct a demonstration and how-to instructions on photographing one’s artwork.. This will be held at Chota, Room A, at 10:00.
Judee Andrews informed the members about plans to paint murals at the Crisis Center for Women and Children in Madisonville. She is currently working on the plans and invited those interested in participating to sign up to be a part of this.
The annual Spring Art Show will be held on April 16, 17 and 18. Sharon Elmore, show chairman, stated she’d be sending applications by email (or regular mail for those without email) for those wishing to exhibit. She also passed around a sign up sheep for those who could help with a variety of small jobs that are necessary for a good show and strong attendance.
Lauren asked for a volunteer who would be willing to take on the job of webmaster for the Guild for next year. She thanked Kathy Fisher for the good job she has done, getting the website up and keeping it going for the past three years. DONE! THANKS TO MARY SARAR FOR VOLUNTEERING!
Sharon Goehring announced that the program for the March meeting will be a demonstration by Lyda Plemons, oil painter from Maryville.
The program for today’s meeting was “Show and Share,” with members bringing in any pieces of art they wished to share. In some cases, these pieces had been produced by the members and in other cases they were works that had special meaning and/or memories for the member. A nice variety of pieces and mediums was shown to the group.

The Art Guild of Tellico Village met on Thursday, January 21 at the Yacht Club. President Lauren Sisco called the meeting to order at 10:00 after a brief time for socializing among the members and guests.
Guests and new members were asked to stand and were welcomed by the President. She announced that three of the guests had joined the Guild today.
It was announced that information concerning art classes and workshops is located on the tables at the side of the room, along with sign up sheets for those interested in participating. We will try and minimize meeting time for these announcements as the lists are growing!
Lauren gave a report for Gene Fischer, Treasurer, who could not be present at today’s meeting. She announced we have $2400 in our account. There are funds in the treasury to take care of our planned Spring Art Show and other projects.
Upcoming workshops were announced by Lauren to include one by Sandra Washburn in June and another by Anne Abgott in August. Special note for Anne Abgott's: There is already a waiting list for individuals outside of our Guild. Guild members will take priority so sign up quickly to secure your spot! A workshop by Harriet Howell to take place at the end of January is filled.
Kathy Fisher explained that several classes are offered in watercolor, drawing, and portrait drawing, as well as an ongoing life painting group. Information about these classes can be found on the side tables at the meeting as well as on the Art Guild web page and newsletter.
Tutt Hoy told the group about two upcoming Brown Bag Creativity Sessions. The first on February 8 will demonstrate Batik methods and the second, on March 8, will address Learning How to Photograph Your Art Work. These begin at 10:00 and participants are invited to bring a lunch and stay and paint in an Open Studio in the afternoon. Members were asked to email Keith Harding with any questions they would like addressed at the March Brown Bag and to bring their digital cameras and manuals, as well as a piece of work they’d like to photograph. Mary Lee Wilkinson reminded the group that these sessions are free.
Members were reminded that our program for the February meeting is a “Show and Share” where members will bring in either a piece of their own art work or pieces that they own and would like to share with the group.
Jean Porter shared information about a place in Athens, Tennessee where one may have giclee prints made very reasonably. She had flyers with more information about this to share with the membership.
Judee Andrews invited anyone interested in participating in the Mural Projects for the Art Guild to contact her. Plans are to do murals in Madisonville at a Women’s Center and for the Senior Citizens here in Tellico Village.
Sheila Goehring introduced the speakers for today’s meeting. Scott, Brandon and George came from Jerry’s Artarama in Knoxville to share information about the latest developments with a number of art products, such as in acrylics, grounds, papers, pencils and more. These guests also gave away many door prizes to the Art Guild attendees. A one-time 25% off coupon is available at the store for Art Guild members.

The November meeting of the Art Guild of Tellico Village was called to order by
President Lauren Sisco at 10:00.
Lauren announced that we have 12 new members, bringing the total membership to
109. She welcomed each new member and asked them to stand and introduce
themselves to the group. She also pointed out that we have created New Member
name tags so that we will be sure to recognize the new members among us and be
able to meet and welcome them.
Lauren thanked the members for their donations to the annual Toys for Tots
campaign. Tom Ringenbach of the Tellico Village Woodworkers was introduced and
he thanked us for contributing to their efforts on behalf of Toys for Tots.
AGTV member Joe Williams was recognized and thanked for his contribution of a
platform, to be used by the Life Painting Group at Chota. Joe built and donated
the platform and delivered it to Chota. Lauren presented him with a gift
certificate from the Guild for dinner out.
AGTV was recognized by the POA for our work in painting the mural at Good
Samaritan Center. Lauren announced she had attended the POA Honor Luncheon, where we received a Certificate of Excellence for our efforts, though AGTV was not the final Honor Award recipient. Those members who participated in painting the mural were
Judee Andrews, who led the team, and Nancy Campbell, Muriel Fawcett, Kathy
Fisher, Gene Fischer, Mary Mulherin, Cheryl Peyton, Kathy Simms, Leslie Wells,
and Mary Lee Wilkinson.
Gene Fischer gave the treasurer’s report.
Lauren pointed out that our membership dues help us to put on the annual Art
Show each April as well as to purchase supplies and equipment for the Art Room at Chota. This allows us to expand the art making experience for our members.
Carol Koch gave a report about our planned workshops and reminded the membership
that Harriet Howell will be conducting a watercolor/acrylic workshop on January
29, 30 and 31. She announced that a sign up sheet for this workshop is located
at the side table.
Mary Lee Wilkinson gave a report about the Fine Arts Market held at Chota on
November 7. Sales at the market totaled nearly $5100, with a 20 per cent
commission being paid by each artists to the POA.
Upcoming classes were announced and promoted by Mary Lee Wilkinson, Lee Edge and
Teresa Mauch.
The December meeting will be our annual Holidy Luncheon on December 17 at
11:00 at the Yacht Club. This will be a potluck luncheon. The Guild will
provide ham and coffee and iced tea. Members are asked to bring a salad,
vegetable or dessert.
It was announced that our January meeting would be on the 19th, with a
representative from Jerry’s Artarama as the speaker.
Sheila Goehring introduced our speaker, Ben Qualls, a potter whose studio,
Stoney Clay Station, is located on Highway 11 just north of Lenoir City. Ben
demonstrated several handbuilding techniques for creating pottery pieces. Guild
members crowded around to see his demonstrations, asked many questions and
enjoyed the presentation. Sign-up sheets were made available for those interested in
taking a class at Stoney Clay Station in 2010.

Meeting Minutes
October 15, 2009
The October meeting of the Art Guild of Tellico Village was called to order by President Lauren Sisco at 10:00.
Lauren reminded attendees that membership dues are due by October 31st. Dues are $25 for individual memberships, $35 for family memberships. After October 31, these dues will be raised to $30 for an individual and $40 for a family.
Lauren thanked Sharon Elmore for volunteering to take over the job of Publicity Chairman for this year. Lauren thanked Sharon for all of her help and efforts to so tirelessly help the Guild.
Jean Porter was recognized and congratulated for receiving an Honorable Mention at the Oak Ridge Art Show for her painting “Big Kiss.”
Nils Johnasens’s work is currently being displayed in the Art Guild Showcase at Chota Rec Center.
The newest group of members’ paintings has been hung in the Chota Rec Center hallway. These paintings are for sale. (Eight paintings were sold from Chota last summer). Artist’s works are needed for the Chota hallway display/sale for the months of January through March. If you can display, please contact Muriel Fawcett or Cheryl Peyton. Two pieces per artist.
Mary Lee Wilkinson is starting another watercolor class on October 27 to run through December 1. The fee is $90.
A Fine Arts Market will be held at Chota, Room A, on Saturday November 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All work will be priced under $200. Mailbox flyers are being distributed by members prior to the market.
Judee Andrews asked for volunteers to paint at the Hope Resource Center sometime in January, 2010.
Little Tennessee River Artists will be holding their second exhibition November 6 from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., November 7 and 8 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. The exhibit will be held at Rarity Bay.
The program for the day was presented by Richard Miller, a professional portrait painter and sculptor, who lives here in the Village. He showed a video of himself doing an actual painting and discussed his work.
Next meeting of the Art Guild will be Thursday, November 19.

The September meeting of the Art Guild of Tellico Village was called to order by President Lauren Sisco at 10:00.
Lauren introduced Rupert Cooke, who showed the video he had made of the Guild’s Art show held last April. Copies of the DVD are available to purchase for $10 and anyone interested could sign up at the table near the back of the room or contact him on 458-2927.
Current year’s Board Members were introduced and guests and first time attendees were recognized. Also recognized were AGTV members who have recently been juried into shows in the area.
Lauren announced that 12 new screens had been purchased for us by the Quilters Guild. Also new table covers for the Art Room at Chota and a new DVD player have been purchased for the Guild. A survey form has been placed in each chair and Lauren reminded members to fill this out and return it so that programs and workshops that meet the members’ need can be scheduled.
Gene Fischer reported that as of today’s meeting, the balance is the Treasury is $555.00.
Several classes are being taught at Chota and each teacher took a few minutes to tell about their classes. These included Lee Edge, drawing classes; Lyda Plemons, oil painting classes; and Mary Lee Wilkinson, watercolor classes.
Francie Entz announced that the Guild is holding a Fine Arts Market on November 7 at Chota. She explained that this would be for items priced under $200. Set up will occur on November 6 and the Market will take place from 9:30 til 3:30 on the 7th. Today (September 17) was the deadline to register for this event. There is a registration fee of $10 to members and $35 to nonmembers to cover advertising, refreshments and miscellaneous expense in holding this event. A 20 percent commission on sales will be paid to the POA.
Tutt Hoy announced that the first Brown Bag Creativity Session of the year will be held on Monday, October 12 from 10:00 til 2:00. This will be on Making Decorated Papers, demonstrated by Leslie Wells. Following will be sessions on Making gift Tags, Greeting Cards, Notepaper, etc.; Monoprinting; Batik, and One-Stroke Painting. Brown Bag Sessions are usually held the second Monday of each month.
Lil Clinard announced that the Tennessee Artists Association will hold a juried show at the Emporium in Knoxville from October 2 through October 30. Jean Porter announced that the Little River Artists Group at Rarity Bay is holding a three-day show November 6,7, and 8 and invited all to attend.
Sheila Goehring introduced our guest speaker, Katie Kinney of Fine Arts Blount. She spoke to the group on “The Business of Being an Artist.” She made an excellent presentation and covered many items of concern to artists regarding the marketing of their work.
